REQUIREMENTS : National Diploma (NQF 6) in Applied Linguistics / Language Practice or
an applicable qualification, within the related field as recognised by SAQA, with
a specialisation in Sepedi and translation studies. At least one (1) year
of experience in language services, translation or a comparable field. Comprehension
of the application of the Constitution of the Republic of South Africa, 1996; the Use
of Official Languages Act, 2012 (Act No. 12 of 2012); and the Pan South African
Language Board Act, 1995 (Act No. 59 of 1995), along with other related
legislation. Familiarity with translation and editing. Understanding of public service
policies and administration procedures. Strong interpersonal skills, outstanding
communication abilities (written and verbal), together with analytical, coordination,
and stakeholder liaison capabilities. Must be computer literate with proficiency in MS
Excel, MS PowerPoint, MS Word, Outlook, and the Internet. Should possess personal
qualities such as being innovative and proactive, capable of gathering and
analysing information, able to work independently and within a team, perform under
pressure, willing to work extended hours, and be responsible and loyal.
DUTIES : Translate documents. Perform research and consult on translation matters. Edit
and proofread translations. Assist in terminology development by extracting and defining terms, as well as supplying provisional equivalents.
Coordinate with other terminology development stakeholders. Promote
language awareness and offer language-related support to departmental
employees. Assist in monitoring the implementation of the departmental language
policy. Provide assistance by editing documents, as well as recording and filing edited documents. Communicate with branches concerning
queries related to documents to be edited.
